Nene Readers to gather Tuesday

The Nene Readers’s kickoff meeting is slated at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kailua-Kona Public Library.

Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona, Nene Readers is a reading club at the Kailua-Kona Public Library for fourth, fifth and sixth graders hat focuses on reading, enjoying, analyzing, and discussing Nene Award-nominated books.

Attend the kick-off meeting to learn more. Registration will be open until February 2018.

Kona Stories book club to discuss ‘A Trip to the Stars’

Kona Stories hosts a fiction book club discussing “A Trip to the Stars” by Nicholas Christopher on Tuesday.

The group meets at 6:30 p.m. at the store. Book groups are free if books are purchased at Kona Stories, or a $5 donation is requested.

Temporary closure slated for Waimea library

Thelma Parker Memorial Public and School Library in Waimea will be closed Tuesday through Oct. 13.

The closure is required because of repairs to the electrical circuitry at adjacent Waimea Middle School will require a shutdown of the electrical system that the library shares with the school. Officials determined the precaution was necessary for the health and safety of our library staff and patrons.

The book drop at Thelma Parker Library will remain available during the closure.

The library is scheduled to re-open for normal hours, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., on Oct. 14.

‘Teen Bookface Exhibition’ this month at library

The Kailua-Kona Public Library is holding a “Teen Bookface Exhibition” Monday through Oct. 31.

Library users are encouraged to snap an appropriate photo with an image from any book or magazine over a face to create a new image. Photos may be edited with a filer, or some cropping. Email photos to konabookface@librarieshawaii.org. Anyone can submit, however, the library is hoping for the biggest turnout to be teens.

The photos will be posted around the library to exhibit the community creativity.

Those who don’t have a camera, can ask library staff to take a photo.
